Peace Restored: Maguindanao Del Sur Families Resolve Longstanding Feud

Manila: Local and military officials successfully facilitated the resolution of a longstanding ‘rido’ (clan feud) between two families in Maguindanao del Sur. Governor Ali Midtimbang and Brig. Gen. Edgar Catu, commander of the 601st Infantry Brigade, played pivotal roles in mediating the peace settlement between the families of Saya Taya Said and Suharto Talintam, the barangay chair of Tugal, Sultan sa Barongis.

According to Philippines News Agency, the feud originated from a territorial dispute, with Said having relatives in the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in the area. The intervention by Midtimbang and Catu was crucial in persuading the families to reconcile, emphasizing the importance of unity for the benefit of their children and the broader community.

Governor Midtimbang emphasized the necessity of fostering unity and compassion to prevent violence within communities. Brig. Gen. Omar Rozco, commander of the Army’s 1st Mechanized Brigade, praised the families’ decision to mend their differences. Brig. Gen. Catu remarked on their success in resolving multiple clan conflicts, expressing confidence in addressing other disputes similarly.

Maj. Gen. Donald Gumiran, Western Mindanao Command chief, commended Catu and Rozco for their diplomatic efforts in assisting local governments to address security challenges effectively.
