Manila: Authorities confiscated PHP42.17 million worth of illegal drugs and arrested 120 suspects in nationwide operations conducted from March 19 to 26. In a statement Monday, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Isagani Nerez said a total of 88 operations were carried out across the country during the period.
According to Philippines News Agency, Nerez emphasized that all efforts were based on the mandate of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to curb the demand for illegal drugs and to establish a drug-free New Philippines. The operations resulted in the seizure of 2,024.33 grams of suspected shabu; 57,434 marijuana plants; 138,477 grams of dried marijuana leaves; 10,000 marijuana seedlings; and 2,525 grams of marijuana stalks.
Of those arrested, 69 individuals were identified as drug pushers, while 11 were alleged drug den operators. All suspects will face charges under Republic Act 9165, known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The confiscated items are currently in government custody for forensic examination and will be presented as evidence in upcoming court proceedings, PDEA stated.
