Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led a series of activities this week, advancing the administration's initiatives on housing, infrastructure, food security, and public health. According to Philippines News Agency, the President's schedule included the turnover of housing units, awarding of land titles, the groundbreaking of a major subway project, an economic policy meeting, and visits to food technology and health programs. On Monday, a day after his 69th birthday, Marcos hosted the annual 'Salo-Salo sa Palasyo' for his supporters and personnel of the Office of the President at the Kalayaan Grounds of Malacañan Palace. During the celebration, Marcos expressed gratitude for the continued support and trust extended to his administration by Filipinos. As part of the celebration, the Handog ng Pangulo Serbisyo Caravan was held at about 90 locations nationwide as the President's birthday gift to the people, benefitting thousands of Filipinos with government assistance worth PHP2.88 billion. On Tuesda y, Marcos oversaw the ceremonial turnover of 333 housing units at Disiplina Village - Arkong Bato in Valenzuela City, underscoring the administration's efforts to provide decent and affordable housing to Filipino families. Marcos later led the awarding of 110 land titles to beneficiaries of the Community Mortgage Program in Caloocan City, providing organized community associations of low-income and homeless families with access to financing to acquire and develop land for housing. On Wednesday, Marcos spearheaded the groundbreaking of the Metro Manila Subway Project's Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 Station in Pasay City. The subway station is expected to improve connectivity between NAIA and other parts of Metro Manila. The Metro Manila Subway is the country's first underground railway project and is designed to provide a faster and more efficient mass transportation option for commuters. Also on Wednesday, Marcos presided over the 11th Economy Development Council meeting at Malacañan, focusi ng on economic and development priorities and measures to sustain growth. The council approved the revised implementation timeline for the North-South Commuter Railway Project, with the first partial operation targeted to begin in December 2027. Discussions also included public-private partnership projects and initiatives to address food insecurity and undernutrition. On Thursday, Marcos traveled to Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan, to visit the Nutridense Food Manufacturing Corp. He inspected projects under the Department of Science and Technology's Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program, which assists micro, small, and medium enterprises by providing technology interventions to improve productivity and competitiveness. The President also checked commercialized food technologies, emphasizing the government's efforts to harness science and technology in improving food production and nutrition. While in Pangasinan, Marcos also led the delivery of integrated health and nutrition services during his visit to th e Sta. Barbara Central School. Efforts included the promotion of health and well-being of Filipino learners through the Yaman ng Kalusugan Program at Kalinga booths and overseeing the School-Based Feeding Program, targeting severely wasted and undernourished learners. In a statement on Friday, Marcos expressed grief over a fatal shooting inside a school in Banga, South Cotabato. Marcos ordered a thorough investigation into the shooting incident, emphasizing the need to enhance measures to prevent school-related violence involving minors. The President's agenda this week highlighted several priorities of his administration, including providing secure housing, improving public transportation, strengthening economic development, enhancing food security, fostering innovation, and promoting public health.
