Quezon city: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday honored five outstanding Filipino innovations that emerged victorious in the 2026 Presidential Filipinnovation Awards (PFA) National Competition during a ceremony held in Quezon City. The awards were presented at the Crowne Plaza Galleria along Ortigas Avenue, where Marcos acknowledged the creativity and efforts of the nation's leading innovators in developing products, services, and technologies that have the potential to benefit Filipinos.
According to Philippines News Agency, the PFA is envisioned as the country's highest recognition for innovation, providing a platform for showcasing Filipino craftsmanship, innovation, and inspiration. Marcos highlighted the importance of the awards in connecting innovators with industry stakeholders, partners, and investors, offering them greater market access and investment opportunities.
The winning innovations included the Compact Easy to Operate and Economical Biodiesel Reactor for Benteng Diesel by Capistrano Research and Development on Biotechnology; the Philippine Native Chicken initiative by Golden Sprout Corporation; the Saltric Marissa Turbine by PDG Engineering Services; the Gasification Process for Waste Disposal by Vic Metal Fabrication and Environmental Services, Inc.; and the OstreaVent2 Prototype Ventilator by Breath of Life Foundation, Inc. These five awardees outperformed 16 other finalists from across the nation in the competition.
Entries in the competition were assessed based on criteria such as innovativeness, sustainability, scalability, marketability, and potential impact and relevance, regardless of their industry or technical focus. President Marcos encouraged Filipino innovators to collaborate with the government in addressing pressing challenges, emphasizing that the success of innovation is ultimately measured by its impact on people and communities.
Marcos urged innovators to focus on transforming their ideas into solutions that can improve the lives of Filipinos, addressing modern challenges such as food insecurity, flooding, soil erosion, and energy shortages. He expressed the government's appreciation for the efforts of Filipino innovators in building a safer, more comfortable, and sustainable life for every Filipino.
The President noted that the PFA not only recognizes Filipino innovators but also aims to provide them with opportunities to develop, scale, and commercialize their ideas. He emphasized that the recognition should enable Filipino ideas to grow and leave a lasting impact on people's lives.
Marcos, who chairs the National Innovation Council, stated that innovation is a central part of the administration's national development agenda, with the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028 identifying it as a key driver of economic transformation, productivity, and competitiveness. He assured continued government support for Filipino inventors and innovators in turning their ideas into practical solutions, committing to creating an environment that fosters innovation and development in the country.
