Tarlac: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said the government is now implementing a flood control master plan that has been in place for decades.

According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos emphasized that although a comprehensive master plan existed, it had not been executed until now. This statement came during his inspection of repair works at a collapsed bridge in Tarlac. The President highlighted that the plan had been developed decades ago, yet no action was taken to implement it until the current administration decided to start.

Marcos' comments are timely as Central Luzon, Metro Manila, and other regions in Luzon face widespread flooding due to heavy monsoon rains. Malaca±ang has consistently advocated for long-term flood control strategies. These include enhancing waterways, upgrading drainage systems, and implementing proper land-use planning to address the challenges posed by the increasingly severe rainfall patterns linked to climate change.

The President has directed relevant agencies and local governments to enforce existing laws and respect no-build zones. He stressed the importance of disaster preparedness and adherence to regulations to mitigate the impact of extreme weather events. Marcos assured the public that the government is committed to continuously adapting to the evolving challenges posed by climate change.
