Pastrana Shines as UST Remains Unbeaten in UAAP Women’s Basketball

Pasay: The University of Santo Tomas (UST) stayed perfect in the UAAP Season 88 women’s basketball tournament after demolishing the University of the East (UE), 125-50, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on Wednesday. Kent Pastrana scored a career-best 35 points to go with 12 rebounds, five steals, two assists, and one block as the Growling Tigresses earned a playoff for a twice-to-beat advantage with an 11-0 record.

According to Philippines News Agency, Pastrana expressed her satisfaction with her performance, stating, “I am so happy with my performance today. That’s what I always tell myself that I will give everything I can to the team to win every game and of course, as a leader, I’ll always do my best to help my teammates and coaches.” Pastrana had previously finished with 25 points against the University of the Philippines on November 5.

UST is set to face Ateneo at the SMART Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on November 15. Their last two games will be against defending champion National University and Far Eastern University. UST assistant coach Ged Austria highlighted the team’s focus on maintaining momentum, especially with challenging matches ahead against Ateneo and NU.

UST’s 125 points represent the highest scoring output in UAAP women’s basketball since NU’s 131-47 victory over UE on October 2, 2022. Nigerian center Oma Onianwa contributed 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block. Rachelle Ambos, Coi Danganan, and Karylle Sierba each scored 11 points, contributing to UST’s commanding 70-29 lead at halftime.

UE’s Syril O±ate managed 20 points, five rebounds, and one steal, while Rachel Lacayanga added 18 points, five steals, four rebounds, and two assists. Despite their efforts, UE suffered its 22nd consecutive loss since the first round of Season 87.
