Paraguay President to Make First Official Visit to the Philippines

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will welcome Paraguayan President Santiago Pe±a Palacios for an official visit to the Philippines on Monday next week, marking a milestone in bilateral relations between the two countries.

According to Philippines News Agency, Pe±a's visit will be the first presidential-level engagement between the Philippines and Paraguay since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1962. Pe±a will be accorded official honors at the Malaca±an Palace in Manila, where he and Marcos are expected to hold a bilateral meeting.

The two leaders are set to discuss opportunities to enhance cooperation in key areas, including trade, investment, and agriculture. The Palace stated that the visit highlights both countries' shared commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and international cooperation.

Paraguay is considered an emerging partner of the Philippines in Latin America, with both sides seeking to expand engagement and diversify economic partnerships. The Philippines and Paraguay established formal diplomatic relations on Dec. 12, 1962, with ties spanning more than six decades.

Malaca±ang emphasized that the visit underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen relations with Latin American countries and broaden the country's global partnerships.
