Palace: PBBM Expects Passage of Proposed IPC by June

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has expressed optimism over the passage of the proposed Independent People's Commission (IPC) Act by June this year, Malaca±ang said on Tuesday. The proposed creation of an IPC was among the 21 priority measures approved by Marcos during the third Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) meeting at Malaca±an Palace.

According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated efforts will be made to pass all 21 priority bills before the end of June this year. The IPC bill aims to enhance public transparency and accountability amidst the administration's intensified crackdown on government and financial irregularities.

When asked about the possible implication of the IPC's creation on the fate of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), Castro mentioned that the future of the existing fact-finding body remains unknown. This uncertainty persists while the review of ICI's investigation findings on anomalous flood control projects is underway.

Castro also noted that the establishment of a People's Independent Commission could impact the ICI. Since ICI is an independent, fact-finding commission aiding the executive branch in speeding up investigations by the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Justice, its continuation remains uncertain.

Previously, Castro mentioned that President Marcos would allow the ICI to decide whether to continue its operations or conclude its mandate. She added that the President is willing to extend assistance if the independent body requests it. The ICI was created through Executive Order 94 issued by Marcos in September 2025, tasked with investigating anomalous infrastructure projects implemented over the past decade.
