Palace Official Questions VP Sara’s Motives in ICI Probe Discussion

Manila: Malaca±ang on Saturday turned the tables on Vice President Sara Z. Duterte for questioning the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), suggesting she appeared concerned about the potential outcome of the flood control probe.

According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro called it ‘unfortunate’ that government officials like Duterte would cast doubt on the creation of the ICI, which is tasked with investigating alleged irregularities in flood control projects. Castro questioned whether Duterte is afraid that the ongoing investigation might uncover something, leading her to discredit the ICI’s integrity.

The statement came after Duterte expressed skepticism about the establishment of the ICI, arguing that the investigation into flood control projects could have been conducted internally by the Office of the President (OP). She suggested that the OP could have utilized its confidential funds to resolve the issues, bypassing the need for a separate commission.

Castro expressed disappointment in Duterte’s stance, implying that such skepticism hinders the government’s efforts to address alleged corruption and irregularities. She criticized Duterte for spreading baseless accusations that undermine the government’s integrity and efforts in nation-building.

Furthermore, Castro questioned Duterte’s understanding of presenting genuine evidence, as opposed to fabricated claims, and stated that Duterte’s stories are insignificant and should not be taken seriously. Castro emphasized the credibility of the ICI members, noting that they are all experts in their respective fields and are not politicians, underscoring their integrity.
