Palace Lauds Sandro’s Statesmanlike Stance on Impeachment vs. PBBM

Manila: Malaca±ang on Tuesday praised House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos for voluntarily inhibiting himself from all impeachment proceedings against his father, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., calling the move proper and statesmanlike.

According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro highlighted that the young lawmaker's decision to step back from deliberations involving an impeachment complaint against his own father reflected integrity and respect for democratic institutions. Castro stated, "The act of Congressman Sandro Marcos inhibiting himself voluntarily from this issue, especially regarding the impeachment complaint filed against his own father - it is a hallmark of a statesman. It shows his character; it shows his decency. And we believe that it is the right thing to do."

When asked whether the President advised his son to inhibit, Castro clarified that the Chief Executive did not interfere in the Ilocos Norte representative's actions. She emphasized, "Hindi po nakikialam ang Pangulo sa mga anumang aksiyon na gagawin ng kaniyang anak dahil ang alam po niya kailangan lamang pong tumupad ang kaniyang anak sa mandato (The President does not interfere in any actions taken by his son because he knows that his son simply needs to fulfill his mandate)."

Castro further mentioned that as an elected official, Rep. Marcos is fully aware of his responsibilities under the law. "Bilang public servant alam po ni Congressman Marcos kung ano po ang sinasabi ng batas at ano po ang dapat niyang gawin (As a public servant, Congressman Marcos knows what the law says and what he must do)," she added.

The House majority leader made the announcement to recuse himself from the proceedings following the filing of a second impeachment complaint against the President on Monday.
