Manila: Malaca±ang on Monday said the Department of Education's (DepEd) proposal to shift to a trimester system remains under study, stressing the need for further assessment and stakeholder consultations before any implementation.
According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro noted that the proposal is currently at the discussion stage, with DepEd presenting possible advantages of adopting a trimester academic calendar. Castro emphasized that it is still just a proposal and that a more thorough study is required to determine its feasibility.
Castro highlighted the importance of further research to assess whether the shift should be implemented. She stated that conducting a more immediate and comprehensive study would be beneficial in making an informed decision regarding the proposal.
In response to calls from the Alliance of Concerned Teachers for public consultation, Castro agreed that broader discussions among stakeholders would be advantageous. She emphasized the importance of engaging all interested parties to ensure that the best possible program for the youth is achieved.
The DepEd had previously introduced the idea of adopting a trimester system as part of reforms aimed at improving learning outcomes and addressing calendar-related challenges.
