Palace Denies Special Treatment Claims for Romualdez at Quezon City Jail

Quezon City:Malacañang has dismissed allegations that former House Speaker Martin Romualdez is receiving special treatment at the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas. The Palace emphasized that Romualdez is a significant figure under close scrutiny in the investigation related to the flood control controversy.

According to Philippines News agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro expressed concern over the misinformation surrounding Romualdez's detention. Castro indicated that such claims could undermine the efforts of government agencies fulfilling their responsibilities.

Castro addressed rumors circulating on social media suggesting that the power supply at the New Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory had been cut to disable CCTV cameras, allegedly allowing Romualdez to leave undetected in an ambulance. She clarified that the facility's CCTV system is linked to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), enabling ongoing monitoring of movements within the jail.

BJMP's initial review of CCTV footage showed no power interruptions at the facility over the past month, Castro noted. The last recorded event involving Romualdez was his departure to attend a court hearing on October 12. Castro further mentioned that the BJMP has initiated an investigation into the allegations as of November 3.

Castro also reiterated that all individuals in custody are subject to uniform custodial rules, and any movements outside the detention center require a proper court order. She invited those making allegations of preferential treatment to visit the BJMP and review the CCTV footage to validate their claims.
