PAGCOR to Donate 500 Computer Tablets to Iloilo City for Learners

Iloilo city: The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) is set to turn over 500 units of computer tablets to Iloilo City next week, a local official announced. This donation comes at a critical time as the city faces challenges such as typhoons and earthquakes, which have impacted traditional learning methods.

According to Philippines News Agency, City Local Housing Office head Jason Millare emphasized the importance of the donation, stating that it is crucial for learners, especially those enrolled at the Iloilo City Community College (ICCC). With the Department of Education adopting alternative modes of learning, these tablets are necessary for continuing education amidst natural calamities. Millare assured that the donation incurs no cost to the local government but mentioned a timeline requirement for the donation’s acceptance, hinting that if not accepted in time, the tablets might be redirected to other local governments.

The donation is scheduled for November 17, and the city council is urged to approve a resolution authorizing the city government to sign the deed of donation. Reinhart Pahila from the City Mayor’s Office indicated that guidelines for distributing the tablets are yet to be finalized by the ICCC administrator. Mayor Raisa Tre±as is expected to announce the necessary guidelines, ensuring transparency about the qualifications needed for students to receive the tablets. The council has granted Mayor Tre±as the authority to sign the deed of donation and acceptance, paving the way for this initiative to support learners in Iloilo City.
