Bacolod city: The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has donated 500 Cherry Mobile computer tablets to this highly urbanized city, aiming to support its upcoming mobile library initiative, which seeks to provide digital resources to more students.
According to Philippines News Agency, the donation was received by Mayor Greg Gasataya from PAGCOR Bacolod branch manager Joel Cantos during a turnover ceremony at the Bacolod City Government Center. The mayor expressed that the tablets would be integrated into a proposed mobile learning center in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd). This roving facility is designed to bring educational resources to underserved areas lacking consistent access to computers or high-speed internet.
The mobile learning center, which is set to be launched soon, will be equipped with internet connectivity and modern learning software. It aims to connect students to research, online curriculum, and global information that was previously inaccessible. The Cherry Mobile Superion Tab Pro, the DepEd-compliant tablet provided, features a 10.1-inch high definition display, enhancing the learning experience for students.
PAGCOR's contribution to Bacolod is part of a larger initiative involving 2,000 computer tablets valued at PHP17.54 million, distributed to cities in the Visayas that host Casino Filipino branches. Cebu City is set to receive 1,000 tablets, while Iloilo City will also benefit from 500 units.
