Marawi city: An anti-drug operation in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur on Sunday led to the recovery of PHP6.8 million in suspected shabu and the arrest of five individuals, including a woman, police said.
According to Philippines News Agency, Capt. Steffi Salanguit, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), identified the arrested suspects as Mawiya Gunting, 56; Khadaffy Ampuan, 45; Ibrahim Mayasa, 52; Hassanor Gunting, 22; and Aisa Gunting, a 48-year-old woman, all residents of Lanao del Sur.
The buy-bust operation was carried out at 2:30 p.m. in Barangay Basak Malutlut and was led by PRO-BAR's Regional Drug Enforcement Unit with support from other police units in Marawi. Salanguit mentioned this in a radio interview on Monday.
Operating units seized a large tea bag package containing about one kilogram of suspected shabu, with an estimated street value of PHP6.8 million, according to the Dangerous Drugs Board valuation. Also recovered from the five suspects were 10 bundles of boodle money, a gray-colored vehicle, mobile phones, and documents.
The suspects are currently detained at the Marawi City Police Station while charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, are being prepared against them.
