Cebu: Adamson University defeated Ateneo de Manila University, 25-15, 26-24, 25-14, Sunday night to sweep the Visayas leg of the 2025 Shakey’s Super League (SSL) National Invitationals at the Mandaue Sports Complex in Cebu.
According to Philippines News Agency, Alas Pilipinas member Shaina Nitura scored 23 points off 15 attacks, four blocks, and four aces to secure the Best Player award. The Lady Falcons claimed victory after a runner-up finish in 2023. The Lady Falcons were up 19-9 in the third set when the Blue Eagles moved to within seven. Nitura led a 6-2 run to seal the win.
Adamson head coach JP Yude expressed gratitude for his players’ performance and the opportunity presented by the tournament, which resulted in three consecutive wins. He noted his pride in the team’s progress, having also led them to a 2024 Shakey’s Girls Invitational Volleyball League crown.
Meanwhile, University of San Carlos (USC) secured second place by defeating the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-14. USC, the reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) champion, finished with a 2-1 win-loss record, with Ghanna Suan scoring 14 points, and Angel Galinato and Juliane Yu contributing 11 and 10 points, respectively.
USC head coach Grace Antigua attributed the victory to the players’ increased eagerness in the second set and acknowledged the significance of the Shakey’s Super League event as preparation for Cesafi.
Ateneo settled for the bronze with a 1-2 card. The upcoming Luzon leg will feature NCAA champion College of St. Benilde, Letran, Far Eastern University, and University of Batangas from August 29 to 31 in Batangas.
