NGCP Restores Transmission Lines in Visayas and Mindanao Amid Typhoon Impact

Manila: Two transmission lines in the Visayas and Mindanao, affected by Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi), have been restored as of Tuesday morning, but 14 lines remain down, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

According to Philippines News Agency, the NGCP’s 10 a.m. report identified the restored lines as the Ormoc-Baybay 69kV line, servicing the Leyte IV Electric Cooperative Inc. (LEYECO IV) and LEYECO V, and the Placer-Madrid 69kV line, which serves the Surigao del Norte Electric Cooperative (SURNECO), Siargao Electric Cooperative (SIARELCO), and Surigao del Sur II Electric Cooperative (SURSECO II).

However, eight 69kV lines, five 138kV lines, and one 350kV line remain unavailable. The unavailable 69kV lines include the Maasin-Baybay line, catering to LEYECO IV; the Ormoc-San Isidro line, serving Don Orestes Romualdez Electric Cooperative, Inc. (DORELCO), Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative Inc. (SOLECO), LEYECO III, and LEYECO V; the Maasin-San Isidro line serving SOLECO; and the Paranas-Quinapondan line, which services the Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ESAMELCO).

Additional unavailable lines are the Calongcalong-Asturias Line, serving the Cebu 3 Electric Cooperative Inc. (CEBECO III); the Nabas-Culasi-Bugasong Line, catering to the Antique Electric Cooperative Inc. (ANTECO); the Amlan-San Carlos Line, servicing the Negros Oriental 1 Electric Cooperative (NORECO1) and NORECO II; and the Bacolod-San Enrique Line, serving Negros Electric and Power Corp. (NEPC) and Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (NOCECO).

The NGCP did not provide details on the other affected lines. Line crews are currently patrolling, and simultaneous restoration efforts are ongoing in accessible areas.

In the latest bulletin issued at 8 a.m. by the weather bureau, the center of Typhoon Tino was estimated to be near Sagay City, Negros Occidental, moving west northwestward at 25 kph, with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gusts up to 185 kph.
