Sibulan: The newly-installed office-in-charge (OIC) police director of Negros Oriental has outlined his three key priorities, including intensified anti-illegal drug campaigns, as he assumed office this week. Col. Timmar Alam was officially installed at the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO) headquarters in Sibulan town by Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) director Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay.
According to Philippines News Agency, Capt. Stephen Polinar, the spokesman for NOrPPO, shared insights from Alam's first command conference with police chiefs and unit commanders. Alam emphasized instilling discipline among police personnel, improving law enforcement efforts, and enhancing police operations, particularly concerning illegal drugs and loose firearms.
During the assumption of command ceremony, Alam addressed the challenges facing the Negros Oriental police force, especially in light of recent incidents resulting in the deaths of four police personnel and a civilian in Sibulan. Alam expressed his commitment to his new role, stating, "I am fully aware that this time around, which is the aftermath of that tragic incident, is a very challenging responsibility... and I accept it with a profound sense of duty, commitment, and humility."
Alam's leadership will focus on three core principles aligned with the Philippine National Police (PNP)'s Focus Agenda of the Chief PNP: community engagement and partnership, sustained law enforcement, and upholding professionalism and integrity. He emphasized the importance of building strong partnerships with government officials, law enforcement agencies, and the community to combat crime and maintain peace and order.
Alam assured the public of relentless operations and intelligence-driven strategies to bring justice to the communities. He succeeds Col. Lito Patay, who was named OIC following the administrative relief of Col. Criscente Tiguelo last month after a police officer shot three of his fellow officers and a civilian in Sibulan on January 8.
