Negros Power Secures 5-Year Baseload Supply Agreement with AboitizPower

Bacolod: Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) has entered into an agreement with Aboitiz Power Corp. (AboitizPower), through its subsidiary Therma Visayas Inc. in Cebu, to provide a 20-megawatt (MW) baseload supply for the next five years. This strategic move is designed to support the increasing electricity demands driven by economic growth in the Negros Island Region.

According to Philippines News Agency, Negros Power’s initiative is crucial as the company expands its customer base, which has grown from approximately 220,000 to 245,000 over the past year. Roel Castro, the president and CEO of Negros Power, emphasized the importance of the agreement in a news release, highlighting its role in driving economic development.

Negros Power serves the electricity needs of several cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod, Talisay, Silay, Bago, Murcia, and Don Salvador Benedicto. The power supply agreement was signed by Castro and Danel Aboitiz, president and CEO of AboitizPower, at the Negros Power office on November 13.

AboitizPower secured the contract through a competitive selection process managed by a third-party bids and awards committee. Baseload power is essential for maintaining the minimum electric power needed to keep the system operational at all times. Castro expressed confidence in the long-term agreement’s ability to meet growing demand, ensuring reliable service for the communities served by Negros Power.

Danel Aboitiz expressed satisfaction with the strengthened ties between AboitizPower and Primelectric Holdings Inc., the parent company of Negros Power. He described the partnership as fruitful and noted the ease of collaboration with the group.
