Negros Power Assures Reliable Power Supply for May 12 Polls

Bacolod: The Negros Electric and Power Corp. has assured the Commission on Elections (Comelec) of reliable power supply in its franchise area for the May 12 national and local elections. ‘We are fully prepared to ensure a reliable power supply throughout the entire election period. This is our way of contributing to a secure and credible electoral process,’ Negros Power president and chief executive officer Roel Castro said in a statement on Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the power company gave the assurance after Castro signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Negros Occidental Provincial Election Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria on April 7 to ‘ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply for the upcoming 2025 National and Local Elections’ in the coverage area of Negros Power, including the cities of Bacolod, Bago, Talisay, and Silay and the municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto.

The signing was witnessed by Negros Power chief operating officer Bailey Del Castillo and Bacolod City Election Officer Revo Sorbito. Both parties committed to a joint effort to uphold the integrity of the electoral process by ensuring seamless coordination and effective public information dissemination, with no budgetary implications for the Comelec.

As part of its commitment, Negros Power has come up with an Election Power Readiness Plan, detailing the technical and operational measures in place to ensure reliable electricity service before, during, and after Election Day. It pledged to guarantee the reliability of the power distribution system, conduct proactive maintenance, clear potential obstructions, and deploy personnel to assist the Comelec on election day.

The Comelec, meanwhile, will provide election-related materials and updates, promoting voter awareness, and supporting transparency and accountability. Voter information leaflets will be included in Negros Power’s monthly billing statements that can potentially reach about 230,000 customers in its franchise area.

‘This collaboration strengthens our shared commitment to protect the democratic process and deliver clean, honest, and credible elections,’ Ananoria said.
