Negros Oriental Police Arrest 24 Suspects, Seize Nearly PHP1.5 Million in Shabu During Weeklong Operations

Manila: Police in Negros Oriental seized nearly PHP1.5 million worth of suspected shabu and arrested 24 suspects during weeklong anti-criminality operations, an official said Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Lt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO), reported that the regionwide Simultaneous Anti-criminality Law Enforcement Operations (SACLEO) were conducted from August 4 to 10 across the province. Polinar noted that while the provincial level typically engages in three-day enhanced police operations, the regional police official extended this initiative to span an entire week.

During the prolonged SACLEO, authorities seized over 216.6 grams of suspected shabu, which holds an estimated street value of PHP1.469 million. Additionally, 24 operations targeting illegal gambling led to the apprehension of 52 individuals and the confiscation of approximately PHP7,000 in bet money.

The operations also included 70 pursuits resulting in the arrest of 21 most wanted individuals and 49 other wanted persons. Furthermore, 34 operations on loose firearms resulted in the arrest of one person and the confiscation or surrender of 37 firearms. Five Oplan Katok operations were also carried out, leading to the safekeeping of five firearms pending license renewals. In total, 1,682 people were apprehended for violating various ordinances.
