Negros occidental: The Negros Occidental provincial government is gearing up to highlight more than 80 gender and development (GAD) projects that have been implemented locally in recent years. These initiatives will be showcased in an exposition scheduled for November 20 and 21 at the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol.
According to Philippines News Agency, the GAD Expo 2025 is part of the Office of the Governor’s ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and empower women. The event will feature nearly 20 proponents who will share valuable insights and information about the projects, which address issues related to education, health, economic empowerment, environmental protection and conservation, and the strengthening of institutional mechanisms.
In a recent interview, Provincial Gender and Development Focal Point System action officer Marie June Pavillar-Castro highlighted the significance of the projects implemented under various offices, including the Provincial Health Office, Provincial Planning and Development Office, and the Office of the Governor. “This is a sharing of the projects funded by the Provincial Gender and Development budget,” she stated.
The Republic Act 9710, also known as the Magna Carta of Women, alongside the annual General Appropriations Act, mandates that all agencies, local government units (LGUs), government-owned and controlled corporations, state universities and colleges, and constitutional bodies allocate at least five percent of their total budget for GAD programs and activities. For this year, Negros Occidental has allocated a GAD budget of PHP310.2 million, covering 81 approved projects and 27 proponents.
The GAD Expo 2025 is expected to attract approximately 120 participants from LGUs in Negros Occidental and selected members of the GAD Focal Point System from Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.
