Navy Sends 80 Tons of Construction Materials to Calayan Island

Manila: The Philippine Navy (PN) announced that its Northern Luzon Naval Command (NLNC), through the landing craft BRP Waray (LC-288), has successfully delivered around 80 tons of building materials and other items essential for construction and development projects on Calayan Island, Cagayan.

According to Philippines News Agency, the PN reported that BRP Waray initially transported 15.6 tons of rolling cargoes during its first sortie to the island on February 1. On a subsequent mission on February 6, the naval vessel delivered approximately 64.15 tons of materials, including 1,150 sacks of cement, 270 sacks of feeds, 250 GI sheets, 75 pieces of laminated wood, 300 pieces of steel bar, and two pails of paint.

The operation was conducted in coordination with the local government unit of Calayan, ensuring the successful transportation and delivery of all materials to aid ongoing and planned construction projects. The Navy emphasized the expected positive impact of these materials on infrastructure development and the improvement of basic services for the local community.

The Navy further stated that these transport missions underline its commitment to national development efforts, particularly in supporting geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
