National Cybersecurity Committee Finalizes Strategy Against Cyber and Cognitive Threats

Manila:The National Cybersecurity Inter-Agency Committee (NCIAC) has finalized a resolution to continue implementing a disruption playbook designed to counter cyber and cognitive threats aimed at government institutions.

According to Philippines News Agency, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Robert Joseph de Claro emphasized the importance of collective commitment to protect the country's digital environment. He stated that addressing cybersecurity threats requires cooperation among government agencies, the private sector, and the public.

The National Computer Emergency Response Team (NCERT) Disruption Playbook outlines strategies to detect, contain, and disrupt cyber threats. Key measures include strengthening government Domain Name System (DNS) security, addressing potential system compromises, dismantling fraudulent websites that mimic government platforms, and enhancing protection for government digital infrastructure.

The resolution also emphasizes timely incident reporting, appointing breach-notification officers in government agencies, coordinating efforts against misinformation, and conducting compliance checks to ensure security measures are in place.

During a meeting on Tuesday, the NCIAC reviewed a DICT-NCERT briefing on cyber and cognitive threats against government institutions, identified vulnerabilities, and recommended protective actions. The DICT also advised the public to remain vigilant by avoiding suspicious links, verifying websites, checking information before sharing, and reporting suspected cyber incidents through proper channels.

Through the NCIAC, the DICT plans to continue collaborating with government agencies and stakeholders to bolster national cyber defenses and foster a safer, more resilient digital environment in the Philippines.
