Manila: The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) achieved a significant milestone by recording its highest daily ridership of the year, reaching 501,875 passengers on Tuesday. This record was set on the final day of the free ride program exclusively for national ID holders.
According to Philippines News Agency, the MRT-3 announced on Thursday that this was the first instance this year where daily ridership surpassed the 500,000 mark, breaking the previous record of 492,597 passengers recorded on August 12. The figures include passengers who participated in the 'libreng sakay' initiative, which offered free rides to national ID holders on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The MRT-3 expressed gratitude to its passengers for their ongoing support and confidence in the service. The agency committed to enhancing its service quality, ensuring it remains efficient, safe, and dependable for all commuters.
Throughout August, MRT-3 provided free rides to all national ID holders every Wednesday during peak morning and evening hours. This initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Philippine Statistics Authority as part of the celebrations for the anniversary of Republic Act 11055, the Philippine Identification System Act.
