Surigao del norte: The Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC) donated 14,300 seedlings of various indigenous tree species to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Tubod, Surigao del Norte, and to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, in celebration of Arbor Day on Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, of the total seedlings donated, 9,300 were seedlings of Mangkono, Agoho, and Sagimsim. These were allocated to the towns of Placer, San Francisco, and Malimono in Surigao del Norte, as well as to CENRO Tubod. An additional 5,000 seedlings of Mangkono and Maribuhok were provided to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' (DENR) Siargao Islands Protected Landscapes and Seascapes program.

The mining firm, based in Claver town, stated that the initiative underscores TMC's ongoing commitment to environmental conservation, forest restoration, and sustainable development through collaboration with government agencies and local communities. The company emphasized its continued efforts with partners on tree-planting initiatives aimed at fostering a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.

Meanwhile, the DENR-13 (Caraga Region), in a statement on Thursday, expressed solidarity with the nation in celebrating Philippine Arbor Day 2026. The agency highlighted the importance of Arbor Day, observed every June 25, as a reminder of the crucial role that trees and plants play in sustaining a healthy environment.

The observance of Arbor Day is supported by Proclamation No. 643 and Republic Act 10176, known as the Arbor Day Act of 2012. The DENR-13 noted that Arbor Day was institutionalized to promote tree planting and to encourage public participation in environmental conservation for the benefit of current and future generations. This year's Arbor Day theme is 'Luntiang Bukas.'
