Manila: The city government of Manila on Saturday raised to red alert status the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMO) in relation to the expected impact of Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong) this weekend. In a social media post, the Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) said Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso ordered MDRRMO Director Arnel Angeles to ensure a fast and prompt response to any incident.
According to Philippines News Agency, the public is being informed to remain vigilant and to immediately contact emergency services at 0932-662-2322 if necessary. Mayor Domagoso announced that several establishments throughout the city are prepared to offer shelter for vehicles. Specifically, SM San Lazaro, SM City Manila, and SM Savemore Market Nagtahan will open their parking areas as safe havens, with overnight parking fees waived on November 8 and 9, 2025.
Additionally, the Winford Hotel and Casino is providing free parking to those in need of secure vehicle shelter, as stated in a public advisory shared by the MPIO. Typhoon Uwan was located 680 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, or 760 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar, as of 11 a.m. on Saturday. It is advancing westward at 35 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness reaching up to 170 kilometers per hour.
