Malaca±ang Urges Unity as Critics Called to Drop Politics During Holy Week

Manila: Malaca±ang on Tuesday called for unity and restraint, urging critics to refrain from political attacks during the Holy Week observance. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro made the appeal when asked about criticisms directed at President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the administration.

According to Philippines News Agency, Castro urged detractors to avoid engaging in politicking during this period. 'Sa ngayon, sa panahon ngayon, ay iwasan po natin sana ang pamumulitika (At this time, we hope people will refrain from politicking),' Castro said in a Palace briefing. She further emphasized that if critics have nothing constructive to say, they should stop and instead cooperate with the administration for the country's progress. 'Kung wala po silang masasabing maganda at kung hindi paninira lamang, tumigil muna sila at makipagtulungan na lamang po sa administrasyon para ikaaangat ng ating bansa,' she added.

Castro highlighted that criticisms driven by personal interest are not suitable given the current national challenges. 'Ang basher po ngayon, pansariling interes para masira ang gobyerno. Hindi po iyan napapanahon (Bashers are driven by personal interests to damage the government. It is not appropriate at this time),' she noted. When asked if she would pray for the critics, Castro mentioned, "lahat po, dapat ipagdasal (Everyone should be prayed for)."

In response to remarks made by Senator Imee Marcos regarding the President, Castro defended the Chief Executive. The senator had previously expressed regret to her father, the late president Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., for not overseeing her younger brother amid political disagreements. Castro stated that the President's conduct in public office and personal life demonstrates discipline and responsibility. 'Ang Pangulo po ay hindi nagmumura, hindi nagmi-meltdown sa publiko at hindi nagbabanta sa buhay ninuman. May pamilya at faithful sa asawa (The President does not curse, does not have public outbursts, and does not threaten anyone's life. He has a family and remains faithful to his spouse),' she asserted. Castro added that while the President is aware of his sister's comments, he has chosen not to engage with her.
