Manila: The Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) has ruled out a nationwide ban against the game and social platform Roblox after its executives agreed to enhance safety measures to protect children. This decision comes after extensive negotiations aimed at aligning with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to bolster the country's digital platforms and safeguard the Filipino youth.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DICT, along with the Cybercrime Investigation Coordinating Center (CICC), law enforcement representatives, and other private sector participants, held a meeting where Roblox presented its plans for stricter monitoring, reporting, and age-appropriate content controls. The platform aims to improve safety by implementing these measures.

'Bukod dito, sa darating na Abril 12, 2026, magsasagawa ang Roblox ng information campaign upang paigtingin ang safeguards at magbigay ng gabay sa mga magulang kung paano gamitin ang mga ito (In addition, Roblox on April 12, 2026, will hold an information campaign to strengthen safeguards and to educate parents on how to use these tools),' the DICT stated. These tools include screen time controls, purchase limits, blocking inappropriate content, and selecting age-appropriate content.

The DICT emphasized that 'Digital safety ay responsibilidad ng platform, gobyerno, at bawat pamilya. Sama-sama nating bantayan at protektahan ang kabataang Pilipino sa online space (Digital safety is the responsibility of platforms, the government, and every family. We should work together to safeguard Filipino children online).'

Previously, on March 20, the DICT had warned Roblox about a potential ban in the Philippines due to rising reports of child safety violations, such as sexual predation and grooming, on its platform. In anticipation of such a move, telecommunications companies and the CICC had expressed their readiness to enforce the ban if ordered by the DICT.
