Madis-Aludo Triumphs in Gentry Open Women’s Doubles Championship

San jose del monte: Fourth-seeded pair Tennielle Madis and Stefi Marithe Aludo claimed victory in the women’s doubles at the Gentry National Open Tennis Championships, defeating top seeds Elizabeth Abarquez and Rovie Baulate with a score of 6-1, 6-3 at the Colegio San Agustin hardcourts.

According to Philippines News Agency, Madis and Aludo advanced to the championship after a commanding win over third seeds Aileen Rogan and Paula Ysabelle Uy, 6-1, 6-1. Expressing their aspirations post-victory, Aludo stated, “We hope to achieve more.” The duo will now face each other in the singles title match.

In the men’s singles semifinal, Arthur Craig Pantino overcame second seed Eric Jed Olivarez with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph. Reflecting on the match, Pantino commented on its challenging nature, emphasizing the importance of key points. He acknowledged Olivarez’s prowess, saying, “I know Jed is a really good player and he is No. 2 in the Philippines for a reason.” Pantino is set to compete against top seed Alberto Lim Jr., a four-time Philippine Columbian Association Open champion, who defeated No. 9 Charles Kinaadman, 6-4, 7-6 (5).

PTA coach Bobie Angelo highlighted the importance of diligence, noting the team’s high morale and the success of its players. “Our hard work paid off,” Angelo remarked, emphasizing the goal of nurturing a new generation of champions.

The Gentry Open offers significant rewards for its champions, with the men’s singles winner set to receive PHP300,000 and the runner-up PHP150,000. In the women’s division, the singles champion will earn PHP100,000, and the runner-up will take home PHP50,000.
