LTO Chief Orders ‘Proactive’ Road Safety Plan for Holy Week 2025

Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is boosting the visibility of traffic enforcers in major roads and the conduct of random and surprise inspections on bus terminals as part of its road safety plan for the upcoming Holy Week.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II directed all regional directors and other LTO officials to prepare the necessary road safety plans as millions of Filipinos travel to the provinces. Mendoza emphasized proactive measures through increased visibility in major thoroughfares for assistance and law enforcement, along with random and surprise inspections on bus terminals to ensure the roadworthiness of passenger buses.

Mendoza highlighted that these surprise inspections would also include drug testing to ensure that public transport drivers and conductors are mentally and physically sound. Although the long Holy Week break is set to begin on April 16, Mendoza has ordered the increased visibility of LTO personnel starting this weekend.

In addition to bus terminals and major roads, LTO personnel will be present on roads leading to seaports and airports in Metro Manila and other parts of the country. Mendoza also instructed coordination with local government units to assist in their Holy Week security plans.

Mendoza urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy to avoid inconvenience or accidents. He reminded the public to be patient and expect traffic, noting that anger or road rage would not contribute to a smooth travel experience.
