Manila: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a show-cause order (SCO) against Victory Liner following a viral video that captured one of its passenger buses counterflowing and overtaking vehicles dangerously along a national highway. The incident has raised serious concerns about road safety and regulatory compliance within the public transportation sector.

According to Philippines News Agency, the LTFRB's Acting Chairperson, Greg Pua Jr., has mandated Victory Liner to provide a written explanation as to why its Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) should not be suspended or revoked due to the driver's dangerous conduct. Pua emphasized the importance of adhering to road safety regulations and warned against the misuse of roads by larger vehicles to the detriment of smaller ones. "Roads are not the place of bullying by big motor vehicles against smaller ones; we will not allow that, and those who would dare do that in the public transportation sector will suffer consequences," Pua stated.

The viral video, which served as a crucial piece of evidence for the issuance of the SCO, depicted the passenger bus maneuvering onto the opposite lane on a blind curve, compelling a rider to pull over to avoid a collision. The LTFRB highlighted that such actions not only endangered road users but also violated the obligation to provide safe and convenient public transportation services.

In addition to the show-cause order, Victory Liner is also facing an administrative case for employing a reckless driver. The hearing for this case is scheduled for September 10, marking a significant step in addressing the issue and enforcing regulatory compliance in the public transport sector.
