LTFRB Initiates Structural Inspections Following Powerful Earthquake in Davao and Soccsksargen

Davao: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Tuesday began the structural inspection of public transportation hubs in Davao Region and Soccsksargen in response to the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit the area on Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTFRB Chair Vigor Mendoza II has instructed the Regional Franchising and Regulatory Offices (RFROs) in these regions to collaborate with local authorities for conducting these crucial inspections. Mendoza emphasized the importance of ensuring safety amid warnings from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) about possible aftershocks.

The heads of the RFROs have been directed to work closely with local government units, particularly through engineering offices and the Department of Public Works and Highways, to assess the structural soundness of bus terminals and other public utility vehicle (PUV) stations in the affected regions. Additionally, mandatory inspections have been ordered for two Land Transportation Office (LTO) facilities in the Davao Region and Soccsksargen.

Mendoza further urged coordination with transportation terminal owners and operators to guarantee the safety of both passengers and PUV sector partners. He stressed the need for thorough inspections to confirm the structural integrity of land transportation hubs.

Beyond building inspections, Mendoza has instructed RFROs to assess the condition of their personnel, monitor the ongoing situation, and develop contingency plans to prevent service disruptions. He assured LTFRB personnel of the necessary support during these challenging times, reaffirming solidarity and commitment to their safety and well-being.
