Manila: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has granted special permits to more than 1,000 buses to address the anticipated increase in commuters during the Holy Week.
According to Philippines News Agency, LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III announced that a total of 1,018 special permits have been issued. These permits are valid from April 11 to 27, covering the Holy Week and extending several days beyond to accommodate travelers.
To ensure the safety and convenience of passengers, LTFRB personnel have commenced random inspections of public utility vehicles and transport terminals. These inspections include checking the validity of operators’ documents, vehicle markings, and safety accessories. The inspection process, which began on April 7, will continue throughout the high-traffic period.
Guadiz advised passengers to plan their trips in advance, verify travel schedules, and ensure that tickets and other necessary documents are in order. The LTFRB will also monitor private terminals starting Friday to ensure the availability of help desks and adequate personnel.
Guadiz urged the public to avoid using unregistered vehicles, which may pose safety risks as they do not undergo proper inspections and lack passenger insurance. For assistance or concerns, the public can reach the LTFRB through its 24/7 hotline at 1342, its official Facebook page, or via email at [email protected].
