Manila:Newly appointed Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Lino Cayetano has pledged to enhance government communication, aiming to make information faster, more reliable, and accessible to Filipinos both domestically and internationally.
According to Philippines News Agency, Cayetano was sworn into office by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., becoming the sixth communications chief under the current administration. He emphasized his commitment to continuing engagement with the media and exploring more effective methods of conveying the government's message to the public.
Cayetano highlighted the importance of timely and meaningful communication, gained from his experience in local government alongside President Marcos. He noted the need for fast, reliable, and two-way communication with constituents as a vital aspect of governance.
As a former mayor of Taguig, Cayetano acknowledged the challenge posed by fragmented information distribution and stressed the importance of direct engagement to ensure that government messages reach the Filipino people.
He also mentioned that the PCO plans to engage with media practitioners and stakeholders through face-to-face interactions to better communicate government information. This approach aims to utilize often overlooked personal communication to convey the government's message effectively.
President Marcos explained that the changes in PCO leadership reflect the evolving demands of the communications chief's role, which now encompasses policy, implementation, and political aspects. Lino Cayetano replaces Dave Gomez as the new Palace communications chief.
