Manila: The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is forecast to bring rains over parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, the weather bureau said Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported in its 4 a.m. bulletin that the ITCZ will result in scattered rains and thunderstorms across the Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Masbate, Lanao del Sur, and Davao Oriental. The agency warned of potential flash floods or landslides during times of moderate to heavy rainfall.

The ITCZ is also expected to cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the remaining areas of the Visayas and Mindanao. In contrast, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to localized weather conditions.

Weather conditions across the archipelago will be characterized by light to moderate winds and seas. PAGASA is keeping a close watch on a tropical depression that is currently outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

As of 3 a.m., the tropical depression was located 2,970 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon. It carries maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour, and is moving slowly in a west-northwest direction. PAGASA noted that there is a low probability of the tropical depression entering the PAR or directly impacting any part of the country.
