Iloilo City Representative Endorses ‘No Work, No Pay’ Policy for Lawmakers

Iloilo city: Iloilo City Lone District Rep. Julienne Baronda has voiced her complete support for House Bill No. 7432, also known as the proposed No Work No Pay for Members of Congress Act, authored by House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos. She has taken steps to become a co-author of the bill.

According to Philippines News Agency, Baronda emphasized in a media interview that the proposed legislation targets legislators who fail to attend sessions in Congress or are frequently absent. The bill applies to both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Baronda highlighted the importance of lawmakers being present during plenary sessions, suggesting that other meetings be scheduled outside of these times to ensure that urgent decisions can be made promptly. She noted that the current practice involves suspending rules while waiting for members to attend plenary sessions or when committee meetings coincide with plenary sessions.

In addition to her legislative efforts, Baronda recently participated in an event with Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling and Social Housing Finance Corp. President and CEO Federico Laxa. They were involved in distributing Certificates of Lot Award to 367 members of the Mirasol Village Homeowners Association, Inc. at the People's Center in Barangay San Isidro in Jaro district.
