Currimao: The Department of Finance-Bureau of Local Government Finance has recognized the local government of Currimao in Ilocos Norte as among the top 10 performing local government units (LGUs) in the country. This recognition comes as Currimao posted PHP40,233,926.94 in locally sourced revenue (LSR) in 2024, almost double the PHP20,328,319.40 LSR posted in 2023, according to local government data.
According to Philippines News Agency, Currimao will receive the award on November 5, 2025, at the SMX Convention Center Aura in Taguig City, alongside other top-earning cities and municipalities in the country. “Despite being the smallest municipality in the province of Ilocos Norte in terms of land area, this award demonstrates that size does not define capability,” Currimao Mayor Edward Quilala said in a statement.
Mayor Quilala emphasized that the growth in local revenue is not merely statistics but a reflection of the spirit of collaboration, creativity, and commitment that drives Currimao’s economic development. In an interview, Vice Mayor Judith Quilala attributed the increase in local revenue collection largely to a multi-million-peso solar energy plant in Barangay Paguludan-Salindeg, which covers around 24 hectares of forestland.
Vice Mayor Quilala noted, “The payment of real property tax from the solar project is a big factor to the increase, which also includes the establishment of cement warehouses in the municipality.” The Quilalas encouraged residents, entrepreneurs, stakeholders, and the local finance committee to build on the momentum of the award for a more progressive Currimao.
