Manila: Ilocos Norte A total of 114 residents suffering from chronic illnesses received PHP10,000 in medical assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Wednesday. This initiative aims to support their ongoing healthcare needs and alleviate financial burdens associated with their conditions.
According to Philippines News Agency, the aid is provided under the DSWD's Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program, which offers medical support to those facing financial hardships due to illness and other crises. Ilocos Norte Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos emphasized the government's commitment to reliable service during the assistance distribution at the provincial auditorium.
The financial aid is intended to help beneficiaries cover costs such as medications, medical treatments, laboratory procedures, and other health-related needs, in compliance with assessment and program guidelines. DSWD social workers assess each client's situation to determine the appropriate assistance.
Arlyn Agustin, a resident of Barangay 21 San Agustin, San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, expressed gratitude towards the government for such programs. Agustin, who has been managing chronic kidney disease for three years, stated that the financial help significantly contributes to her maintenance medicines. Her husband, a construction worker, earns PHP500 per day, and the assistance from the DSWD through the provincial government initiative provides much-needed relief.
For the 114 beneficiaries, the assistance eases the financial strain of managing chronic conditions, enabling continued access to essential medical care. Additionally, 47 others in need of maintenance medicines received PHP5,000 from the provincial government on the same day.
Under the Marcos administration, healthcare services in Ilocos Norte have reportedly improved, supported by increased national government funding. The province has advanced its health infrastructure, expanding facilities to bring quality care closer to residents. Immunization efforts have positioned Ilocos Norte among the region's leaders, with medicines and health services reaching previously underserved communities.
Governor Araneta-Marcos remarked that these efforts reflect a leadership philosophy centered on caring for the populace, as a thriving province requires the well-being of its people.
