Iligan City Achieves 17K Measles Vaccinations in One Week

Iligan city: Iligan City recorded 17,641 children vaccinated against measles-rubella during the first week of the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA).

According to Philippines News Agency, the city is part of the MR-SIA Mindanao leg, which runs from January 19 to February 13. Latest data from the City Health Office indicated that the first week of the campaign covered 47 percent of the local government's target of 36,783 children aged 6 to 59 months.

Vice Mayor Ernest Oliver Uy urged residents to support the MR-SIA initiative, led by the Department of Health, as more than 19,000 children still require vaccination. The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) emphasized that the immunization drive is a vital public health intervention and a demonstration of strong inter-agency collaboration aimed at protecting children and communities.

MinDA Secretary Leo Tereso Magno highlighted the importance of the program, stating, "When we invest in the health of our children, we invest in the future of Mindanao. Strong communities begin with healthy families, and this program ensures that no child is left behind," during the immunization kick-off in General Santos City on January 20.
