Habagat to Bring Rains Across Luzon

Manila: The southwest monsoon (habagat) will bring rains across Luzon on Monday, the weather bureau said. In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that monsoon rains are forecast over Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, and Bataan.

According to Philippines News Agency, the monsoon will also result in scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cavite, Batangas, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and the rest of Central Luzon. The weather conditions may lead to potential floods and landslides in these areas due to moderate to heavy rains.

The habagat is also expected to cause isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of Luzon, while localized thunderstorms could trigger isolated rain showers across the Visayas and Mindanao regions. As of 2 a.m., no low-pressure area is being monitored for potential tropical cyclone formation, providing a temporary respite from more severe weather threats.

PAGASA forecasts moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas over extreme northern Luzon, while the rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas. Amid the habagat season, the heat index could peak at 46°C in ISU Echague, Isabela; and 45°C in Tuguegarao, Cagayan, and Dipolog, Zamboanga del Sur. The heat index measures how hot it feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature.
