Manila: The southwest monsoon, known as 'habagat,' combined with a low pressure area (LPA) northeast of Batanes, is expected to bring significant rainfall to Luzon and the Visayas, as reported by the weather bureau on Saturday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released a 4 a.m. bulletin detailing that the LPA is situated 520 km north-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. This atmospheric condition will result in monsoon rains across regions including Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac, and Pampanga. Residents in these areas have been cautioned about the potential for flash floods or landslides due to heavy rainfall.

The southwest monsoon is also anticipated to bring periodic rains to Metro Manila, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro. Meanwhile, other parts of Luzon, the Western Visayas, and the Negros Island Region are likely to experience scattered rains and thunderstorms.

Additionally, localized thunderstorms are expected to cause isolated rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the rest of the country. PAGASA has indicated that Luzon will face moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough sea conditions. In contrast, the remainder of the archipelago is predicted to have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters.
