Grab Probes Alleged Higher Fares for GrabUnlimited Subscribers

Grab philippines: Grab Philippines is investigating allegations of higher fares being charged to its GrabUnlimited subscribers.

According to Philippines News Agency, the ridesharing and delivery company stated that prices on its platform are generated in real-time based on various factors such as supply and demand balance, distance, estimated travel time, route conditions, and the availability of drivers or delivery partners. The company emphasized that these factors can shift continuously, sometimes within seconds, which is why two transactions for what appears to be the same route or order, initiated moments apart, may reflect different prices. This dynamic pricing can also result in price variations between devices, sessions, or times of the day.

Grab clarified that its pricing system applies the same methodology to every user, ensuring that no different base prices are charged based on the user's identity, subscription status, or frequency of platform use. Promotions, vouchers, and subscription benefits like discounts are applied on top of the same base price that is visible to any user at that moment.

Despite these assurances, the company has acknowledged the allegations of fare discrepancies and has initiated an internal review of specific cases along with a broader examination of its pricing systems. The intention is to confirm that the systems are functioning as designed and described. Grab has pledged to take corrective action should the review uncover any issues requiring rectification.

The issue came to light when several netizens posted fare discrepancies showing that GrabUnlimited users are being charged higher fares compared to regular users. In a viral Threads post on March 29, a user reported being charged PHP216 for a trip while subscribed to GrabUnlimited, whereas her mother's regular Grab account was charged PHP192 for the same trip. Similarly, on March 27, another Threads user reported that she was charged PHP438 for a trip using her GrabUnlimited and GrabUnlimited Car subscriptions, while her son's regular Grab account was charged only PHP360 for the same trip.
