Quezon city: Far Eastern University (FEU) dominated University of the East (UE) with an 81-59 victory in the UAAP Season 88 women’s basketball tournament held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
According to Philippines News Agency, Shen Abatayo led the charge for the Lady Tamaraws with 20 points, including five three-pointers in the first half, along with eight rebounds and five assists. This win improved FEU’s record to 3-3, securing solo fourth place. Victoria Pasilang also contributed significantly with 19 points, nine rebounds, and two assists.
The current standings see University of Santo Tomas (UST) at the top with a 6-0 record, followed by National University (5-1) and Ateneo de Manila University (4-2).
Amyah Espanol added 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while Max Dela Torre provided eight points, six rebounds, two assists, and one steal for FEU. The team showed resilience after a previous 66-104 loss to UST.
Assistant coach Jasmine Malto expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, emphasizing their aim to surpass last year’s standings. Malto represented head coach Raiza Palmera-Dy at the post-game press conference, as Palmera-Dy had to leave for the Women’s Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League semifinal in Las Pi±as.
On the UE side, Rachel Lacayanga secured six rebounds, three assists, and two steals, and Moana Vacalares contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. UE remains at the bottom of the standings, trailing University of the Philippines (2-3), Adamson (2-4), and De La Salle University (1-4).
