Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that Maj. Mae Ann Cunanan, one of its female officers, will represent the Philippines in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) organized by the United States Department of State. The program, focusing on “Combating Human Trafficking,” includes distinguished participants from around the world, such as law enforcement professionals, policymakers, and advocates.

According to Philippines News Agency, the IVLP opens on April 12 and will take place in various US locations including Washington D.C., Detroit, and San Francisco. The program is designed to facilitate high-level discussions, the exchange of best practices, and the exploration of innovative strategies to combat human trafficking. Cunanan, who is with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-National Capital Region (NCR), is recognized for her advocacy in protecting vulnerable communities and her dedication to law enforcement.

“This opportunity will allow me to gain valuable insights from international experts and fellow participants, and help further our initiatives to prevent human trafficking, protect victims, and prosecute offenders,” Cunanan stated. Her participation underscores the PNP’s commitment to enhancing its capabilities in fighting trafficking in persons.

Cunanan expressed her honor in representing the Philippines and emphasized her intention to bring back knowledge that could enhance national and regional anti-trafficking efforts. The IVLP program includes interactions with US government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community-based initiatives, providing a platform for collaboration and partnership building in addressing this critical human rights issue.
