Families Impacted by Davao Earthquakes Surpass 362,000; Death Toll at 10

Manila: The number of families affected by the recent twin earthquakes that struck Manay, Davao Oriental, has reached 362,789, with 10 confirmed fatalities, according to the latest data from the government.

According to Philippines News Agency, these affected families encompass 1,511,854 individuals residing in 705 barangays across the Davao and Caraga regions, as reported by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). The council’s latest report indicates that all recorded fatalities are from the Davao region, while 176 injuries have been reported in both Davao and Caraga.

The earthquakes, which registered magnitudes of 7.4 and 6.8, have resulted in damage to 24,413 houses and the complete destruction of 1,190 others. The NDRRMC has estimated infrastructure damage in the affected regions to be around PHP143.40 million.

In response to the disaster, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited Davao Oriental on October 13 to extend assistance personally and oversee the ongoing relief efforts in the hardest-hit areas. Following the earthquakes, President Marcos instructed Cabinet officials to conduct continuous rescue and relief operations to aid those impacted by the disaster.
