EDSA-Ortigas Flyover Southbound Reopens After Bus Fire Incident

Mandaluyong city: The southbound lane of the EDSA-Ortigas flyover in Mandaluyong City is now open to the public, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced Saturday. Motorists can now use the structure following an assessment by officials.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR) confirmed that motorists are allowed to pass the flyover after an evaluation conducted by the Planning and Design Department's Structural Engineer and District Representatives. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. had earlier instructed the agency to perform a safety check to ensure the road's safety after a public utility bus caught fire on Friday.

The DPWH-NCR also stated that a more detailed inspection of the EDSA-Ortigas Interchange would take place on Saturday. This inspection aims to determine the damage's extent and evaluate the structural integrity of the interchange. Officials recommended restricting access to light vehicles only for the Ortigas Flyover Interchange.

Further testing is advised to support a comprehensive structural analysis, as exposed rebars and spalling areas were noted in sections affected by the fire. The bus fire on Friday evening led to the closure of two lanes along EDSA near White Plains Avenue, resulting in heavy traffic congestion.
