Alcantara to Face Olivarez in Philta Men’s Open Semis

Manila: Francis Casey Alcantara boosted his title campaign in the Philta Men's Open, reaching the semifinal round after eliminating sixth seed John Kendrick Bona, 6-0, 6-2, at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila on Friday. The 15th-seed Alcantara, who ousted No. 3 John Benedict Aguilar in the Round of 16, will meet No. 2 Eric Jed Olivarez Jr. on Saturday. Olivarez beat fifth seed Arthur Craig Pantino, 6-3, 6-1.

According to Philippines News Agency, Alcantara is participating in his first local tournament after spending four years on the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Tour. He recently secured a mixed doubles bronze medal with Alexandra Eala at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand. Meanwhile, top seed Alberto Lim Jr. and No. 8 Ronard Joven registered contrasting wins to advance in the event supported by the Philippine Sports Commission. Lim, who claimed his third consecutive and fourth overall title at the Philippine Columbian Open (PCA) Open last year, ousted No. 7 Nilo Ledama, 6-0, 6-2. Joven, on the other hand, survived No. 13 Lance Fernandez, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.

In the doubles category, Vicente Elberto Anasta and Rolly John Saga marched to the Final Four following a 6-3, 6-3 upset over top seeds Alcantara and Joven. Anasta and Saga will meet Noel Damian and Pantino, who prevailed over Evan Bacalso and Al-Zayeed Baid, 6-4, 6-2. Second seeds Lim and Olivarez also moved to the next round, winning over Fernandez siblings Loucas and Lance, 6-4, 6-2, to arrange a duel with Elvin Geluz and Raymund Goco, who defeated Aguilar and Ledama, 4-6, 6-3, 12-10.

The singles champion will earn PHP350,000 and 1,000 Philta ranking points, while the doubles champion will get PHP80,000 and 1,000 points.
