Eastern visayas: The Eastern Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC) committee has called for stricter road safety measures in response to data showing that individuals aged 15 to 49 comprise the largest group involved in road crashes. The committee emphasized the urgent need for stronger interventions, particularly targeting motorcycle users and other vulnerable road users.

According to Philippines News Agency, the committee highlighted the importance of road safety initiatives in reducing crashes, minimizing injuries, and ultimately saving lives. It stressed the necessity for ongoing coordination among government agencies and local government units (LGUs) to enhance road safety programs and promote safer mobility across the Eastern Visayas region.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has reported on its continued efforts to advance driver education and raise road safety awareness throughout the region. The agency has organized 66 free theoretical driving courses, reaching 5,444 participants, and conducted road safety and defensive driving seminars in various locations. Additionally, through its mobile LTO caravan, the agency has facilitated licensing and registration services, especially in communities with limited access to regular LTO offices.

The Department of Health (DOH) has previously expressed its concern not only with the enforcement of road safety laws but also with addressing the root causes of road traffic accidents from a health perspective, which includes behavioral, environmental, and systemic factors.

The World Health Organization's Global Status Report on Road Safety 2023 indicates that road traffic crashes remain a significant global issue, resulting in more than two deaths per minute and over 3,200 daily.
