Manila: Speaker Faustino 'Bojie' Dy III has directed a series of joint committee hearings to consolidate government action and craft a comprehensive legislative response to the escalating Middle East conflict, with a focus on immediate relief, economic stability, and long-term resilience. Dy announced that the hearings will bring together key executive agencies and House leaders to align on the aid and legislative package needed to address the situation in the short-, medium-, and long-term.
According to Philippines News Agency, the hearings, to be conducted during the session break after Holy Week, will be led by a cluster of committees covering critical sectors affected by the crisis, including energy, food security, labor, transportation, and economic management. Dy emphasized that the initiative aims to ensure coordination between the Legislative and Executive branches for targeted, forward-looking solutions.
The joint hearings will involve the House committees on Energy, Aquaculture and Fisheries, Foreign Affairs, Ways and Means, Labor and Employment, Transportation, Information and Communications Technology, Economic Affairs, and Social Services. The objective is to work collaboratively with executive partners to identify solutions, rather than assigning blame.
Dy highlighted the importance of hearing directly from economic managers and frontline agencies to gather the necessary information for measures that can help citizens cope with the impact of the Middle East conflict. The findings from these hearings will support both executive actions and legislative measures aimed at mitigating the impact of global disruptions on Filipino families.
Dy concluded by stating that while external events are beyond control, the focus should be on readiness and unity in responding to challenges, ensuring swift and collective action in finding solutions.
